Progress of Team Unseen Up to 13-07-2018 to 28-07-2018

Within the week of (13-07-2018 to 28-07-2018) we have referred research papers under following topics.

• Post editing over a voice in social network and GUI creation for it
• How blinds use screens (tap, swipe, scroll etc)
• More about text to speech,speech to text and speech to commands
• Previous authentication systems over a voice and identity their problems

Like that we continued our literature survey. All the information which we gathered through
the research papers were helpful for us in the process of creating software requirement
specification. Further we created software requirement specification which includes;

• Use case Diagram
• Use case Scenario
• Activity Diagrams
• Functional and Non-Functional requirements

Moreover we created Software Requirement Specification presentation also within this
weeks. After that we have planned and discuss about Software Design Specification and report
which we have to do in coming weeks.

Progress of Team Unseen Up to 12-06-2018 to 13-07-2018

Within the time period of first month we found our project idea with the help of our supervisor

and start the research on it. The proposed idea of voice based social network for blind and

visually impaired, we understood two research areas.

1.How to create GUI specifically for blinds.

2.How to create authenticate system over voice.

Therefore within the last month (12-06-2018 to 13-07-2018) we completed information gathering under following areas.

• Ergonomic interfaces for blinds.

• How to implement a system with the concepts of text to speech, speech to text and speech to

command.

• How to implement a a voice based authentication system.

• Implementation of voice based authentication with vocal qualities.

• How blinds currently involving with social networks and why they need new social network.

After complete information gathering on above areas we were able to get better background

knowledge about our case. Thereby we continued our literature survey too.

Then we created our project proposal and project proposal presentation within this time

period. Further we planned and discuss about the Software Requirement Specification which we

have to do in next weeks too.

Team Unseen Proposed Voice Based Social Network Application for Blind and Visually Impaired people.

Team Unseen is the group which was created for complete the third year project which is under the Information and Communication Technology degree program in Faculty of Applied Sciences,Rajarata University of Sri Lanka.Team is consist of 5 members as follows.

As we express in our previous blog article we observed that blinds and visually impaired people have the need of social network.Therefore as a solution we proposed a system which is exclusively for them.

This project is basically about to create voice based social network for blind and visually impaired people. System will introduce new authentication method through voice which is specially for blind and visually impaired people. Just like people who has normal behavior use social networks, this social network will support to make new friends and share text posts or audio posts according to the choice of blind and visually impaired users. Further users of the system can read, like and comment for the posts through voice commands. And also system will support the functions of calling and instant messaging for contacts of contact list.

Why Blind and Visually Impaired People need Social Network?

Today over a billion people use social networks at least once per day. They share their photos, status, videos and all other adventures in their news feeds and let others to do comment, like or share. But as a person who is visually impaired or blind if they couldn't use social network, they might feel isolated from the society. 

Therefore, if we can introduce social network which everyone can use without regarding the visually impairments or blind it will be important for them significantly.

There are number of authentication methods like finger print recognition, facial recognition. But most of them does not provide enough trust worthy or security when it comes to blind or visually impaired people. Even blind people couldn’t able to see they have the ability of listening and speaking as normal people do. Therefore, with the recent concepts of natural language processing and voice signal processing it is possible to implement voice-based authentication system. It will provide considerable amount of security and trust worthy even the blind people could able to use. 

       

Therefore, as a solution we propose voice based social network application which focused on blind people. We believe it could be filling this gap, facilitate trust worthy authentication and make them feel that they are not isolated from the society.
